Obituary for Robert E. Galen

Robert E. Galen, 80, of Sinking Spring, passed away in his residence on Monday, September 11, 2017. He was the husband of Marian (Ernst) Galen, who died December 23, 2001.
Born in Centre Twp., he was the son of the late Victor L. Galen and Elsie (Seaman) Galen. He was a 1954 graduate of Ontelaunee High School. Robert was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and was a member of the drum and bugle corp. He worked for Berkshire Knitting Mills, Reading Railroad, Seaboard Coastal Lines, Gloray Knitting Mills, Hamburg Center and Wernersville State Hospital. Robert was a member of Salem (Belleman's) Church, Centre Twp., where he played in the Sunday School band in his youth. He was a member of VFW Post 6150 Sinking Spring, Meadowbrook Country Club, and the Mt. Pleasant, Gouglersville and Liberty Fire Companies.
Robert is survived by one brother: Sherwood D. Galen, and his wife Jeanne, Limerick; one son: Glenn Galen, and his wife; one daughter: Lisa (Galen), wife of John Moore, both of Savannah, Georgia; three step-daughters: Pat, Debi and Sandy and their families; grandchildren and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by two sons: Lonnie Galen, husband of Denyell; and Robert C. Galen; and one brother: Ralph S. Galen, husband of Barbara Delp Galen.
Services will be held on Friday at 7:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. A viewing will be held in the funeral home 6:00 to 7:30 pm. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to American Heart Association, 968 Postal Road, Suite 110, Allentown, PA 18109.
