Marian D. Sonday, 88, of Upper Bern Twp., passed away on Monday, October 16, 2017 in her residence while under hospice care. She was the wife of Wayne S. Sonday, Sr., who died in 1992.
Born in Myerstown, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Matilda (Dierwechter) Henne. Marian graduated from business school in Philadelphia and worked as a secretary. She married Wayne Sonday, Sr. and handled bookkeeping for their family business and raised five children.
Marian was a member of Frieden's Church, Shartlesville. She enjoyed going to the family cabin, reading, swimming, cooking, baking, traveling (especially to the beach), and spending time with her family.
Marian is survived by her children: Wayne S. Sonday, Jr., North Carolina; Charles J. Sonday, and his wife Eileen; Jack H. Sonday; Jill H. (Sonday), wife of Paul Zerbe; and Ruth A. (Sonday), wife of Bruce Dubble, all of Bernville; six grandchildren: Marlynn (Sonday) Persiani, Charles Sonday, John Sonday, Jason Zerbe, Jonathan Zerbe, and Sara (Zerbe) Hess; and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one brother: Paul Henne, and his wife Joan, Shoemakersville; and one sister: Grace (Henne), wife of Alex Hartman, New Jersey. Marian was predeceased by a son: Allen Sonday; two brothers: Charles Henne (Dolly) and Ray Henne; and one sister: Beatrice Sulewski (Ralph). She will be missed by Maxi, her beloved mini daschund, that never left her side (except when Jack would offer him ice cream).
Services will be held on Monday at 1:30 pm from Leibensperger Funeral Homes, Inc., 223 Peach Street, Leesport. Burial will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery, Tilden Twp. A viewing will be held in the funeral home Monday 12:30 to 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Shartlesville Fire Company, 5676 Old 22, Shartlesville, PA 19554.
