Obituary for Madline N. Bender

Madline N. Bender, 83, of Bern Twp., passed away on Tuesday, November 29, 2016 in Penn State Health St. Joseph Medical Center. She was the wife of Richard C. Bender. They were married on April 7, 1951 and celebrated sixty-five years of marriage.
Born in Bern Twp., she was the daughter of the late Floyd S. and Mary Ellen (Rader) Fretz. She was a 1951 graduate of Ontelaunee High School. Madline worked as a substitute food prep teacher at Berks Vo-Tech, Leesport. She then worked as a cook for Sweet Street Deserts, Reading, until her retirement. Madline was a member of Christ Little Tulpehocken Church, Bernville. She was a former deacon at Epler’s Church, Bern Twp.; and a former board member of Bern Twp. Swim Team and Schuylkill Valley Swim Team.
Surviving in addition to her husband is one daughter: Heather A. (Bender), wife of Bryon M. Kuhn, Orlando, Florida; two daughters-in-law: Corinne L. (Knabb) Bender; and Cynthia A. (Long) Starr, both of Bernville; three grandsons: Ryan K. Bender, Codie D. Bender; and Brenden M. Kuhn; and one great-granddaughter: Samantha M. Bender. Madline is also survived by a sister: Gloria P. (Fretz), wife of Donald Moatz, Exeter Twp.; and nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sons: Darrell G. Bender, died October 6, 1991; and Kent R. Bender, died October 7, 1991.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am from Christ Little Tulpehocken Church, 40 Church Road, Bernville, PA 19506. Burial will be in Forest Hills Memorial Park. A visitation with the family will be held at the church Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Almost Home Animal Sanctuary, P.O.
